Exploring Small-Town America Aboard the 130-Guest Yorktown
NEW YORK: Travel Dynamics International is commemorating the Nation’s birthday on Lake Michigan with a picturesque cruise to towns and sites in the heart of North America. The five-night voyage sails roundtrip from Chicago’s Navy Pier aboard the 130-guest, American-flagged and-operated Yorktown. Ports of call include: historic Saugatuck on the shores of Lake Michigan; Charlevoix in the scenic haven of Northwest Michigan; and Victorian-era Mackinac Island, where cars are forbidden and bicycles share the road with horsedrawn carriages.
The ship will depart Chicago on July 3rd and sail overnight to Saugatuck. Guests will spend July 4th on a ride through Saugatuck’s gorgeous coast on specially designed dune schooners, and later have the opportunity to enjoy the town’s Fourth of July parade. At dusk, guests will return to the Yorktown for fireworks over Saugatuck Harbor and a traditional American cookout.

The cruise will also call at the scenic enclave of Charlevoix in the northern reaches of Lake Michigan. Passengers will tour the town’s unique mushroom houses, built by local architect Earl Young. Passengers will also visit Castle Farm, built in 1918 by Sears, Roebuck and Company Vice President Albert Loeb, as a model farm to showcase the farm equipment being sold by his company.
Yorktown will then sail to Mackinac Island, an idyllic destination known for its car-free streets and the landmark Victorian Grand Hotel. Passengers will visit the impressive Fort Mackinac, built by the British in 1780, as well as explore the island’s historic buildings, galleries, and shops at their leisure. Guests will also have the opportunity to partake in swimming, kayaking, and hiking excursions throughout the cruise.

All-inclusive prices for the five-night voyage start at only $995 per person based on double occupancy. A limited number of cabins for solo travelers are available at a supplement of $395 added to the per person, double occupancy rate.
