The paddlewheel has its own rhythm but so does the music of the rivers as we float through the myriad melodies of blues, gospel, folk, rockabilly, ragtime, Dixieland jazz and zydeco. Sway to the music of Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton and try your hand at that quintessential river instrument, the calliope. You’ll quickly discover that the river has a rhythm all its own. Cruises will be on the Elegant American Queen along with the newly refurbished American Duchess.  See itineraries for details.

Day 1: Overnight Deluxe Hotel in New Orleans, LA

Day 2: Embark in New Orleans, LA

Board the American Queen this morning before our 5pm departure.

Day 3: Oak Alley, LA

The always popular and often-photographed Oak Alley in Saint James Parish will leave you in wonder of the 300 year-old oak trees that line the path to the gorgeous white house. Learn about the history and culture of the region, while dreamily walking in the trees. Sip a Mint Julep during your guided tour of the Big House, and suddenly you’ll be living in a different time.

Day 4: St. Francisville, MS

The original settlement of Bayou Sara was destroyed by flooding and fires. Many of the structures were hauled up the bluff to St. Francisville, where they still stand. The southern charm is evident as soon as you walk past the Spanish moss-covered trees between touring their historic homes, beautiful churches and taking pictures with your friends in their breathtaking parks.

Day 5: Natchez, MS

Natchez Indians and the first French explorers shared this beautiful piece of the river for many years. Officially founded in 1716, Natchez is the oldest city on the Mississippi River. Wherever you go, you’ll experience another piece of history, including unique shops, restaurants, museums and the historic homes of Natchez.

Day 6: Vicksburg, MS

Civil War history is alive in Vicksburg, Lincoln’s ‘Key to the South.’ This vital river port city has since become a rich historical visit for tourists who want to learn about the battles of Vicksburg, as well as visit their museums.

Day 7: River Cruising

Enjoy the mighty Mississippi! Take a dip in the pool, visit with friends over drinks, or learn about life on the river from the Riverlorian!

Day 8: Helena, AR

In the Valley of Crowley’s Ridge sits the town that time forgot. Helena stands for simplicity and history. Boutiques and local stores thrive – there are no strip malls or large chain stores here. Visit Freedom Park, part of the National Park Service’s National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Explore artifacts of Thomas Edison, Mark Twain, the Civil War and more in the Helena Museum. Learn about the Blues at the Delta Cultural Center. And Helena has so much more to offer – we’re proud to visit aboard the American Queen!

Day 9: Disembark in Memphis, TN
