A Golden Gate Holiday - 2014

There’s definitely something nostalgic to Americans about traveling west to San Francisco. Wave upon wave of Americans have made that journey, with hope and dreams of what life the ‘City by the Bay’ could provide. Journey the Overland Route, from Salt Lake City to Northern California, traveling through the places that have always been important to the Old West story – Overland Wagon Trail, Emigrant Gap, Donner Lake, Dutch Flat, Cape Horn, Gold Run, Blue Canyon, and more! Board the Great Western Limited, complete with Pullman sleeping cars, fine dining in the vista-dome Streamliner, and all the small touches of a bygone travel era – sleeping on real beds with soft pillows, fine wines and spirits, fresh flowers, elegant menus, and an attentive staff that wants nothing more than for you to enjoy your holiday.

Day 1: Arrive in Salt Lake City, where our group will stay in the heart of downtown at the Little America Hotel. Enjoy the evening as you wish.

Day 2: Sleep in this morning – especially if you need to adjust to the time zone change. Midday we’ll enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city. Tonight, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner at the Little America Hotel. Our train departs at 10pm, but you’ll have access to your hotel room for the entire day if you need to relax. Upon boarding the Great Western Limited, we’ll enjoy a second dessert before snuggling in to our comfortable beds onboard the train. (BD)

Day 3: In the morning, peek out the windows to see Reno and the train’s ascent into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Brunch will be served as we travel past Donner Lake. Later today, we’ll pass Sacramento and disembark in Martinez for our short drive to Napa. Our luxury accommodations will be at the Embassy Suites. (BL)

Day 4: The morning is free for you to explore Napa before we board the Napa Valley Wine Train at midday for a ride through the Napa Valley and lunch en route in the dining car. We’ll also stop at a winery for a tour and tasting. The train will return us to Napa in late afternoon, where a special dinner awaits us. (BLD)

Day 5: We depart Napa for our drive to San Francisco, stopping in Sausalito with time for lunch. We’ll stay at the Sheraton at Fisherman’s Wharf this evening, and our evening is intentionally free for you to explore Fisherman’s Wharf, or other parts of San Francisco that intrigue you. (B)

Day 6: Our final day in San Francisco includes a bay cruise that passes under the Golden Gate Bridge! You’ll have time in the afternoon to head out on the town, perhaps visiting the Palace of Fine Arts or the nearby Marina district. Our farewell dinner this evening will be overlooking the bay. (D)

Day 7: Depart for home by air or train.
