With more than 400 thoughtfully planned shore excursions, American Cruise Lines makes it easy to experience the history, culture, and natural beauty of each destination. Most ports offer two to four excursions, giving you the flexibility to choose experiences that match your interests, activity level, and schedule.
But with so many options, how do you decide which excursions are right for you? Keep these tips in mind as you plan your cruise.
Consider Your Activity Level
Start by thinking about how active you want to be. Excursions range from leisurely walking tours and visits to museums and historic sites to more active adventures such as hiking, kayaking, and bicycling.
Each small-group excursion is led by a knowledgeable local guide and accompanied by an American Cruise Lines team member who is available to assist along the way. With options for a variety of activity levels, you can choose excursions that feel comfortable while still making the most of each port.

Check the Length and Details
Excursion lengths can range from quick sightseeing stops to half-day adventures. Review the duration, itinerary, transportation, walking requirements, and other details before booking so you know what to expect and can plan the rest of your day.
Prefer to explore independently? You can also spend your time ashore sightseeing at your own pace before returning to the ship.
Choose Excursions That Fit Your Budget
American Cruise Lines offers three excursion tiers, making it easy to customize your experience.
Featured excursions are included in your cruise fare and offer memorable ways to experience each destination. Premium excursions typically range from $20 to $50 and provide additional opportunities to explore. Signature excursions, starting at $120, offer more exclusive and immersive experiences. From visiting Multnomah Falls in the Pacific Northwest to exploring Graceland in Memphis, there are options to fit a variety of interests and budgets.

Mix It Up
A little variety can make your cruise even more memorable. Instead of choosing similar experiences at every port, try combining types of excursions. Visit a historic site in one destination, take a scenic cruise or wildlife excursion in another, and enjoy a culinary or cultural experience somewhere else.
Think about what you want from your time ashore—adventure, relaxation, history, food, wildlife, or local culture—and choose excursions accordingly.

Reserve Popular Excursions Early
Some excursions have limited availability and can fill up quickly. If there’s a particular experience you don’t want to miss, it’s best to reserve it early. Excursions with limited seating, such as jetboat and seaplane adventures, can be especially popular.
You can contact a Cruise Specialist or your Travel Advisor to reserve excursions at least 60 days before sailing. If you haven’t booked in advance, your Cruise Director can help you sign up for available excursions once you’re on board.
Make Each Port Your Own
The best shore excursions are the ones that match how you want to travel. Whether you’re interested in history and culture, outdoor adventure, local cuisine, or simply seeing something new, American Cruise Lines offers a wide range of ways to experience each destination.
With a little planning, you can create an excursion lineup that makes every stop along your journey memorable.
