King and was also a regular stop on the famous blues music route, the Chitlin’ Circuit?
Located less than half an hour’s drive from Greenville and the Mississippi River, you’ll discover that the charming town of Indianola is perfect for a day trip adventure. From the blues-inspired murals and paintings, to the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center, you’ll be immersed in the history of the Mississippi Delta and how the music of the blues brought the community together. Not only will you learn about the life and journey of B.B. King and view his guitars and a replica of his recording studio in the museum, but you may also be able to visit the famous Club Ebony.
Club Ebony was the first club where B.B. King performed and was a frequent stop on the blues music trail, the Chitlin’ Circuit, for blues music legends like Muddy Waters, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ike and Tina Turner, James Brown and many others between 1948 and the late 1960s. B.B. King purchased Club Ebony in 2008 and donated it to the museum, which is a short walk down the street. Club Ebony is open Thursday through Saturday, and often hosts live music.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite getting a feel for the blues, stop for lunch at one of Indianola’s iconic restaurants. Soul food is always on the menu at The Crown and The Blue Biscuit, and both restaurants deliver more than a simple meal. These lunch spots serve up hearty portions of traditional Delta favorites as well as New Southern options. The Crown features a comprehensive gift shop focused on music and Southern culinary delights, and The Blue Biscuit often hosts live music.
