The American Empress has added Portland roundtrip cruises to their schedule. This cruise focuses on the Western end of the Columbia River, from Astoria to The Dalles. Visit both the Washington and Oregon sides of the river, experiencing different viewpoints and how the culture of the river has developed differently on each side. Cruise through the Cascade Mountain Range – the only break in the range carved by the very river you’re on.

In 2018, this cruise will only be offered as a 5-day cruise!

The View of downtown Portland, Oregon from Pittock Mansion

Vineyards, Vintages & Varietals

This new wine-themed cruise will bring experts onboard for tastings, pairings and lectures from a variety of Oregon and Washington wineries. Also, the onboard chefs will be incorporating local wines into your culinary experience.

2017 Wine Theme Departures: November 12, 19.

2017 Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight Hotel Stay in Vancouver, WA

Just opposite Portland on the Columbia River, you’ll enjoy overnight accommodations in Vancouver.

Day 2: Embark in Vancouver, WA

The American Empress will be waiting at Vancouver’s port. Take the afternoon to settle in. The paddlewheel will depart Vancouver at 6pm.

Day 3: Astoria, OR

The oldest American settlement west of the Rockies, Astoria is where the Lewis & Clark expedition wintered before returning home. The Hop-On/Hop-Off tour of Astoria will take you to popular stops including the Astoria Column, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, the Carriage House Museum, and more. A great way to see the sights and learn from the locals is to take the riverfront trolley ($1 for one ride, or $2 for all day access).

Day 4: Scenic River Cruising on the Columbia Gorge

Watch the change of scenery go by as the American Empress cruises from the evergreen valleys in the west through the mountains, your pathway cut by the very river you’re riding on.

Day 5: The Dalles, OR

This pioneer destination is still a rich destination alive with history! The Hop-on/Hop-off tour will take you to stops like the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum, the Fort Dalles Museum and Interpretive Center, Sunshine Mills Winery, and more.

Day 6: The Dalles & Hood River

Hood River is a fantastic stop, but does not have its own port. So the American Empress will remain at The Dalles and you can take a bus tour to Hood River! The included morning tour will take you to the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum, and in the afternoon you’ll tour Hood River Brewery!

Day 7: Stevenson, WA

Now its your turn to visit the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge! From Stevenson, you can visit Bonneville Dam and the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center. Or take a premium shore excursion to Mount St. Helens!

Day 8: Portland, OR

Visit Bridgetown; the City of Roses; Rip City; PDX! Included is a Portland City Tour that will show off the Willamette River, the International Rose Test Gardens, the Chinese Botanical Garden, and more. Sit back and enjoy the views of the city.

Day 9: Disembark in Vancouver, WA
