It’s rare for a river cruise to venture this far on the Ohio River, but just once in 2018, the American Queen will cruise all the way to Pennsylvania! Learn about Mothman, who haunts Point Pleasant, WV, visit the Cola Museum and Fountain Shop in Marietta, OH, and get your camera out in Augusta, KY, to take beautiful long-range photos of the Ohio River.

Theme Cruises

Return to Pittsburgh: Cruise the tranquil waters of the Ohio River as you cruise through America’s heartland. Cruising to Pittsburgh is rare, and the American Queen is excited to return in 2018. We look forward to once again visiting river towns in Ohio and West Virginia as we journey to Pennsylvania.

Big Band: Big Band Swing has been one of the most popular themes on the American Queen every year for one very special reason: the nostalgia of the swing era (1920s-30s) with live band performances in the Grand Saloon onboard the most opulent riverboat in the world! The guest orchestras will have you dancing to the old familiar tunes. If you are in a Luxury Suite or AAA Suite, be sure to reserve your box seat for a performance with commodore services. But what fun to sit closer to the action and enjoy a live performance by the orchestra. Maybe you’ll even convince your friend or partner to take a turn with you on the floor!

Day 1: Overnight Deluxe Hotel Stay in Louisville, KY

Day 2: Embark in Louisville, KY

Day 3: Madison, IN

Touring the river town of Madison, you’ll find unique cultural treasures at each stop, including the Schroeder Saddletree Factory and Thomas Family Winery.

Day 4: Cincinnati, OH

Be sure you take a walk along the riverfront to the National Steamboat Monument, and exact replica of the American Queen’s red paddlewheel.

Day 5: Maysville, KY

Visit the bustling downtown district with theaters, art galleries, museums and more. But don’t forget to spend some time on the riverfront, because Maysville’s view of the Ohio River is breathtaking!

Day 6: Point Pleasant, WV

The included tour of Point Pleasant will begin in the Riverfront Park where floodwall murals depict local history. Then you’ll head off to Tu-Endie-Wei State Park, commemorating the 1774 Battle of Point Pleasant and home to the 1796 Mansion House. Fort Randolph was once a refuge for settlers against attacks from Native Americans, and was once the farthest most out-post of the colonies.

Day 7: Marietta, OH

Marietta is home to the Great Mound, a sacred earthwork built between 800 BCE and 700 CE by indigenous people. Then to The Castle, the best example of Gothic Revival style with its octagonal tower and stone-capped spires! Historic Harmar Village has restored train cars and historic buildings, brick streets and lamp posts. And something for the child inside all of us: the Children’s Toy and Doll Museum & Whipple’s Whimsical Toys and Marietta’s Cola Museum and Fountain Shop!

Day 8: Wheeling, WV

Take the Hop-On/Hop-Off Bus Tour thru Wheeling, visiting the Artisan’s Center, the Centre Market, West Virginia Independence Hall, the Eckhart House and Capitol Theatre.
