Take advantage of this by doing the Roundtrip Minneapolis cruise, a rare week of in-depth exploration of the Upper Mississippi. Mark Twain once described this picturesque region as paradise. Life on the Mississippi: Are you the type of cruiser who just wants to sit back and watch the world float by? Let’s cross the Upper Mississippi off your cruise to-do list with this 9-day getaway, roundtrip from Minneapolis. From the time of fur traders, to the bustling river trading and steamboating years, to the beautiful cities of today, you’ll find glimpses of history all along the ports, as well as the natural beauty of the bluffs. Watch for bald eagles!

Music of the 50s and 60s: The Grand Saloon will be Rockin’ and Rollin’ as you cruise the Mississippi River on the American Queen! Put on your dancin’ shoes and shake it all night long to the music of the 1950’s and 60’s! From the silky smooth tones of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, to the groovin’ tunes of the Stones, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles, you’ll find the right music to move you on this summer cruise.

Heartland Heritage: The Upper Midwest is very much the heart of America. From the City of Lakes, explore the charm and hospitality of the heartland. As you travel through the river towns, it’ll seem as though history is just an arm’s length away.

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1: Deluxe Hotel Stay in Minneapolis, MN

Day 2: Embark in Red Wing, MN

Day 3: River Cruising

Enjoy the mighty Mississippi! Take a dip in the pool, visit with friends over drinks, or learn about life on the river from the Riverlorian!

Day 4: Dubuque, IA

Dubuque is the oldest city in Iowa, named for the first permanent settler, a fur trader named Julien Dubuque. River towns have a tendency to attract whoever and whatever is floating on the river, so Dubuque has a long history of immigrant groups settling here, including Irish and German immigrants moving away from the overcrowded cities of the east coast. Included shore excursions will visit the Dubuque Museum of Art, the Fenelon Place Elevator, Grand Opera House, and more. The optional premium shore excursion will visit Galena IL, including the home of Ulysses S. Grant.

Day 5: Prairie du Chien, WI

After you learn how to properly pronounce Prairie du Chien, spend time exploring the local history, including a visit to Villa Louis Residence and Grounds, a Victorian estate originally built in the 1840’s.

Day 6: La Crosse, WI

This city on the river was originally built for the lumber industry, but found new life in beer. Today, the architecture, statues and views of the river make it an artist’s dream.

Day 7: Winona, MN

‘Island City’ was built on a large sand bar. There’s evidence of people living in the region as far back as 9500 BC, but the present town began as the village of Keoxa in 1851. The limestone river bluffs are stunning as they plunge into the Mississippi River below.

Day 8: Red Wing, MN

Listed as a National Geographic Traveler’s Most Historic Places in the World, Red Wing was built on a thriving pottery industry. You can still admire the craftsmanship at the Red Wing Pottery Showroom and the Pottery Museum of Red Wing.

Day 9: Disembark in Red Wing, MN
