Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Ushuaia

Board the MS Fram in Ushuaia,, the southernmost town in the world. Once onboard, you’ll meet the Captain, officers and staff at the welcome meeting, and enjoy a mandatory safety drill! (You are going to Antarctica, after all)

Hurtigruten MV Fram sør for den Antarktiske Polarsirkelen 13-25 februar 2011

Day 2-3: Drake Passage

There’s an interesting phenomenon called the Antarctic Convergence (that you’ll surely learn more about on the ship), that means you’ll find the Drake Passage full of marine life! It has to do with the mixing of the warmer northern waters and the colder southern waters that brings nutrients to the surface – a feast for the local wildlife! You’ll also learn about the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators and Antarctic Treaty that guide all of Hurtigruten’s interactions with the region.

Day 4-10: AntarcticaAntarctica_Nov 2011 (1).jpg

The captain will decide where it is safe and best to visit, based on weather and currents. But you’ll be on the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands. The views will be breathtaking, the close interactions with animals will be unique, and the memories and photos will last a lifetime!

Day 11-12: Drake Passage

Cruising back to the mainland, you’ll have time to reflect and remember the adventures of the past week, while still enjoying good company and good food!

Day 13: Ushuaia

Disembark in Ushuaia.
