New for 2017, the Grande Caribe has added a 14-day cruise from New York to Montreal, with extended time spent exploring the Saguenay! From New York Harbor, cruise on the Hudson River thru the Erie Canal to Lake Ontario! During these first few days, you’ll visit the beautiful Kingston, NY with an optional tour of Hyde Park before watching the Grande Caribe’s unique retractable pilot house lower for the canal passage. You’ll visit small riverside towns, like Rome, Oswego and Ogdensburg, New York. Halfway through your cruise, the ship will journey down the St. Lawrence Seaway. The 1000 Islands region is dotted with beautiful castles and gardens. Have your camera ready! You’ll visit the classically French-inspired Quebec City, situated on the river, before continuing further North along the river to the Saguenay.

Saguenay River in Quebec, Canada

Watch for whales, because the cold waters of the Saguenay River attract entire schools of Beluga whales! Onboard the ship, a local naturalist will host presentations about the wildlife along the river, and point out interesting views along the cruise. You’ll be treated with a second day in Quebec City before enjoying three days in Montreal! Instead of disembarking in a city and only seeing the airport before you fly home, the Grande Caribe will dock in Montreal with plenty of time for you to see all the sights, including the Notre Dame Basilica, Olympic Park, Old Montreal, or other options around town.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Embark in New York City, NY

Day 2: Kingston, NY

Start your morning with the optional tour to Hyde Park, the estate of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and home of his presidential library. Then our ship will start its journey on the Hudson River towards the engineering marvel that is the Erie Canal! And witness our own engineering marvel, as the Grande Caribe’s pilot house retracts so that the ship can transit the canal.

Day 3: Cruise the Erie Canal

The Grande Caribe is one of only two overnight ships that can cruise the Erie Canal! That’s the beauty of the retractable pilot house. Along the way, you can tour nearby Saratoga Springs or Saratoga Battlefield.

Day 4: Rome, NY

Continuing down the Erie Canal, you can choose the optional trip to Oriskany Battlefield and Fort Stanwix.

Day 5: Oswego, NY

Transiting the Oswego Canal, cruise onto Lake Ontario. Watch the pilot house raise back up to full position. Live musical entertainment will come onboard this evening.

Day 6: Ogdensburg, NY

The 1000 Island region is beautiful, with castles and lighthouses and mansions to view. You can tour Singer Castle, used for rum-running during Prohibition, or visit the Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg.

Day 7: Cruise the St. Lawrence Seaway

Continuing down the St. Lawrence Seaway, thru the 1000 Islands, you’ll need your camera close by to take photos of the stunning natural beauty! Listen to the story of the Iroquois, who call this area the ‘Garden of the Great Spirit’.

Day 8: Quebec City, QC

Nothing more romantic than the quaint, French city of Quebec! Walk the cobblestones and practice your conversational French in the small shops of Old Town.

Day 9: Port de Saguenay, QC

We’ll cruise down the Saguenay to the riverside village of Port de Saguenay. Join your new friends on a trip to ‘La Fabuleuse’.

Day 10: Cruise the Saguenay and St. Lawrence River

The cold, beautiful water of the Saguenay attracts schools of Beluga whales, so keep your eyes peeled for whales and other wildlife. A local naturalist will join you onboard for a presentation on the animals, pointing out sights along the way.

Day 11: Quebec City, QC

With a second day in Quebec, choose a morning tour, or visit the remarkable Montmorency Falls.

Day 12: Montreal, QC

Today the ship will be cruising down the St. Lawrence River to Montreal.

Day 13: Montreal, QC

This morning, optional tours are available to Old Montreal, Notre Dame Basilica, Olympic Park, Old Montreal, and more.  This evening, a flute and guitar duo will provide music for our farewell celebration onboard the ship.
