If you’ve yet to explore the magnificent network of waterways that crisscross the landscape of our northern neighbor, Canada, then prepare to be wowed. USA River Cruises is pleased to offer our guests a whole new way of experiencing the Great White North, with its wide-open space and mesmerizing landscapes that once inspired author Lucy Maud Montgomery to pen “Anne of Green Gables.”

If you’ve been looking for your next adventure, Canada should definitely be on your “to-do” list. Although it isn’t the tropical paradise that many look for in a vacation destination, it boasts a number of fun attractions.

You can walk the historic neighborhood of Old Quebec in downtown Quebec City or take a tour closer to home with Niagara Falls Canada. We also recommend a tour of the Great Lakes with our Splendor of the Great Lakes cruise.

Sticky-Sweet Fun

Whatever you decide to explore, we recommend at the very least picking up some delicious maple syrup! Canada has the perfect combination of cold spring nights and warm daytime temperatures to produce the beautiful golden syrup that we all know and love. Due to these ideal conditions, the country produces 85 percent of the world’s maple syrup.

If you’re looking to make maple syrup a part of your trip, make sure to stop by one of the many maple syrup-producing regions, Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.

Maple syrup is more than just a tasty treat, it’s an integral part of Canadian culture. During early exploration and settlement, the Aboriginal peoples of Canada taught early settlers how to harvest and produce the syrup. It was the first sugar product that was produced in eastern North America and was the sweetener of choice until cane sugar became available in 1875.

Luxury river cruising is what you make of it, so it doesn’t have to be full of adventure and syrup. We offer a number of Canada/New England cruises that leisurely sail underneath the beautiful fall foliage of the northeast. All you have to do is sit back and relax.

Canadian Cruises and COVID-19: What you need to know

If you are thinking about going on a Canadian cruise, it’s important that you first note the current COVID-19 restrictions and regulations, especially when at ports of call. For a complete list of Canada’s current marine transport COVID-19 measures, click here.

On February 15th, 2022, the Canadian Government eased the entry requirements for fully vaccinated individuals. Now, if you are a fully-vaccinated individual entering Canada, you are not required to get a COVID-19 test on arrival. Instead, you may be randomly selected to take a test. Additionally, the Government of Canada has adjusted its Travel Health Notice from a Level 3 to a Level 2.

If you would like to verify that you meet all of the entry requirements, the Canadian Government has a helpful online tool.

Fun Facts About Canada

Reader’s Digest Canada offered these interesting facts about our northern neighbors:

  • Canada is actually bigger than the European Union. That means that there is a number of sights to see.
  • Their lowest-recorded temperature was as cold as the surface of Mars. A temperature of minus 81.4 Fahrenheit was recorded in the town of Snag, Yukon, in 1947. Although you’re unlikely to experience this level of extreme cold, make sure to bring a good jacket if you’re cruising to Canada in the winter.
  • Canada boasts 10% of the world’s forests.
  • There are more lakes in Canada than any other location in the world, and with USA River Cruises, you can explore some of them.
  • Canada’s national parks are larger than some countries. Nahanni National Park Reserve in the Northwest Territories is 18,672 square miles, which makes it bigger than both Albania and Israel.
