The Hotel Scam starts off simple enough – you check into your hotel, give the front desk your credit card for any charges you incur, and you go up to your room to settle in. Then someone else calls the front desk and asks to be connected to a room – your room. When you pick up the phone, the person on the other end says, “This is the front desk. We’ve come across a problem with your credit card information. Could you please re-read your card number and the 3-digits on the back?” And, of course, you do – and now the thief has your credit card number AND the security code on the back!

Simple Solution: If a hotel or any company needs your credit card, walk it down to the desk. It doesn’t matter how tired you are from your flight, or how inconvenient the elevator is – it’s not as inconvenient as having your credit card stolen!
