Costa Rica Puerto Caldera to Colón

2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal!

This 48-mile canal and how it was built has become a staple in the United State’s history. Construction was initially started by the French, and then taken over in 1904 by American interests. The canal was completed in August of 1914, and the United States ran and operated the canal until 1999, when operations were then taken over by the Panama Canal Authority.

According to the authority, about 200 cruise ships are expected to pass through this year, and a project that is underway to be completed by mid-2015 to widen the canal may add to the amount of ships cruising through.

Celebrate the centennial of this beautiful place with a cruise from Costa Rica to the Canal, and cross this wonder off your bucket-list!
