Santiago de Cuba is home to El Morro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site properly known as the Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca. It’s a stone fortress built at the entrance of Santiago de Cuba Bay, guarding from pirates since 1638.

Join a city historian on a walking tour of Trinidad – the ‘museum city of Cuba’. Walk the cobbled streets along the row of pastel stucco buildings. The city’s history is rich – literally! Used by smugglers and pirates in the 18th century, Trinidad was a popular base of operations for those looting the Caribbean. In the 19th century, the town was run by wealthy sugar barons. On our tour, we’ll visit Casa del Alfarero Santander, an artisan workshop that’s been run by the same family for decades.

Visit the Pearl of the South – ‘perla del sur’ – a fantastic heritage, deeply rooted in French culture with a Caribbean twist. Cienfuegos sits around the bay, split into 2 distinct areas. The Prado (Paseo del Prado) and Parque Marti is the center of town. Punta Gorda is the thin piece of land jutting into the bay, with an eclectic assortment of 20th century palaces.

Explore the natural beauty of Cuba! Guided by a local naturalist, head to Guanahacabibes National Park, the largest of Cuba’s nature reserves. Learn about the beautiful orchids, as well as the amazing butterflies and birds. At the Honey House, join a discussion with experts about beekeeping and honey production. Visit the Meteorological Center to learn about the weather patterns of Cuba, including the storms and hurricanes that have impact Cubans.

The rhythms of Havana have been heard worldwide, in every mambo, cha-cha, and salsa that’s danced. Enjoy the beat of Havana for yourself when you visit this thriving city! Walk through art studios in Havana Viejo; visit Hemingway’s home away from home at the Hotel Ambos Mundos. The evening is up to you, but might we suggest the Tropicana Theater or, if you’d rather do the dancing, the Cafe Taberna?
