Locks, Legends & Canals: New York to Montreal

Luther Blount wanted a cruise ship that could take passengers to enjoy the, “… romantic autumn in the Northeast.” So he built the retractable pilot houses on the Grande Mariner and Grande Caribe to enable them to transit the Erie Canal, and this Fall Foliage cruise itinerary will take you there. Enjoy 14 days cruising from New York City along the classic Hudson River to the Erie Canal, from which you’ll cruise Lake Ontario to the St. Lawrence Seaway, home to Montreal and Quebec City.

Go Where the Big Ships Cannot

Blount carries on the tradition of ship builder and company founder, Luther Blount, who made it his mission to build boats that could take vacationers to the same destinations he wanted to go to. One of his biggest achievements was the creation of the retractable pilot house. Mr. Blount created it specifically for ships to cruise the Erie Canal. He also created the patented bow ramp that makes it possible for passengers to walk from the ship directly to shore.

BYOB

Blount ships have a Bring Your Own Bottle policy. The ship provides the mixers and the bartender; you bring your favorite alcohol, and you can enjoy the cocktails of your choice without overpriced bar tabs.
