This morning, we’ll all gather for a tour of Portland – a quirky city with something weird for everyone! After everyone’s settled this afternoon aboard the S.S. Legacy, you’ll be treated with champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and beautiful river views as we set off.
3Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
Witness the engineering feat of the Bonneville Dam lock system from within, then tour the visitors center, turbines and fish ladders! After we’ll head to the stunning Multnomah Falls. If you’re looking for a hike, there’s a couple options. Guides can take you on the moderate, switchback trail that’s 2.2 miles roundtrip, or head to Wahkeena Falls for the 5.4 mile loop (1600 feet elevation gain)! Then back to the ship as we cruise through the gorge.
4Rowena Plateau/Columbia River Gorge
We’re hoping for cloudless day so that your hiking efforts today will be rewarded with the best views! At Rowena Overlook, you have two options. 1-mile hike to the crest of Tom McCall Nature Preserve, with views in every direction (including the river below). Or the steeper 3-mile Tom McCall Point Trail which will get you 1000 feet elevation gained and spectacular views of Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and the gorge. This afternoon, if you’re still looking for activity, you can walk or bike the Twin Tunnels Trail which is the pedestrian-only section of the historic Columbia River Highway. If you’re looking for a way to cool down instead, tour a Hood River orchard and farm. Don’t forget to sample their cider!
Choose Your Deschutes Adventures! Option 1: whitewater rafting with Class II and III+ rapids. Gear and guides provided. The ship’s chef will pack you a picnic lunch to enjoy on your way. Option 2: Deschutes River State Recreation Area. Hike or bike in the canyon, and even take a dip in the river.
6Richland, WA/Wine Country
Today we’ll enjoy a private tour of the Terra Blanca Winery & Estate Vineyard! The views are spectacular, and the owner will walking you through their vineyards, wine caves, and a tasting. After lunch you have the afternoon to do as you wish. One of our guides will be leading yoga in the park. Or the Columbia River Trail is open for a walk, run or biking.
7Palouse Falls State Park/Snake River
The Palouse Falls are leftover from the ice age and make an amazing backdrop to your daily hike. Don’t forget binoculars – great area for birding! This afternoon, you can kayak, paddleboard, or swim in the Palouse River Canyon. Later, we’ll begin the journey down the Snake River.
This morning, we’ll experience the history of the region with a presentation by a Nez Perce tribal member, sharing their stories and songs. Afterwards, it’s on to the history of Hells Canyon. Our jet boat tour will spot the bighorn sheep and golden eagles overhead, as well as the 7000-year-old petroglyphs on the canyon walls. Tonight we’ll celebrate our adventures with a Farewell Dinner and slide show of the week.
