Southeast Alaska Cruise

Cruising Alaska has been popular for decades, but a small ship like the American Constellation can get you up-close to the action. Closer to the shore, you can better see wildlife on land; feel the spray when a piece of glacier falls into the ocean; watch for whale pods and catch your breath when you witness a whale breaching the water! You’ll spend a week as the ‘Alaskan Adventurer’ in search of sights unseen – at least, unseen by you before now. Whales, bears, bald eagles and more! Whether you’re walking on glaciers, witnessing part of a glacier crash into the ocean, or kayaking at the foot of a waterfall, you’ll be in awe daily of the beautiful and wondrous majesty of the natural world. In Tracy Arm, you’ll cruise under the 1500 foot high vertical cliffs – and your jaw will drop! In Kake, stop at the Hatchery to watch bears trying to catch their breakfast from the abundant salmon population. Tour Glacier Bay with a National Park Service Ranger, in search of Orcas, Humpback Whales, Brown Bears, and more. Kayak Chilkoot Lake, filled with salmon and home to many birds, including bald eagles. Hear the stories of the ancient people who have always lived here, as well as experience the gold rush era and Klondike Highway.

    3Haines, AK
Our stop in Haines offers two ways to view the natural wonders of Alaska! On the complimentary ‘Nature and Wildlife Expedition’, local naturalists will take you to the ‘Valley of the Eagles’, with six wildlife habitats, home to bald eagles, brown bears, seals, river otters, and more. Or you can choose the Signature Shore Tour that explores Chilkoot Lake’s wildlife habitat by kayak! Watch for salmon swimming into the sea from the river, bald eagles, brown bears, and other birds. Both options highlight the magnificent landscapes of Alaska, from glaciers to snow-capped mountains, and all the lakes, rivers, rainforests and waterfalls in between!

    4Glacier Bay, AK
3.3 million acres. How much of Glacier Bay can you explore in one day? A National Park Service Ranger will join us onboard today to guide us through Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. Miles of coastline, filled abundantly with wildlife, including orcas, humpback whales, brown bears and bald eagles. Our ship will stop right in front of a tidewater glacier and we may see and hear the magnificent sounds of a calving glacier! A Huna Tlingit Cultural Interpreter will also come onboard to share the history and family stories of the native people of Glacier Bay.

    5Petersburg, AK
This fishing village has a strong Norwegian heritage. Take a complimentary walking tour of the town, learning about its rich heritage, the art and Rosemaling that decorate the town, and visit the Clausen Museum, home to artifacts and photographs of the region. For a Signature Shore Tour, ask our agents about heading out on a fishing charter tour – half a day of salmon fishing in Alaska!

    6Cruising the Wrangell Narrows
Cruising between Wrangell and Petersburg, the ship travels through the Wrangell Narrows – a deep and narrow waterway which resembles a fjord with steep and verdant shorelines gliding alongside the ship. Delight in a tasty snack and beverage as you nestle in to admire the scenic landscapes. Bask in stunning views of glaciers, strings of cascading waterfalls, and wildlife ranging from marine mammals to a variety of waterfowl, shorebirds, and seabirds. Enjoy activities with your ship staff, listen to an enlightening presentation from the guest speaker, and sample the chef’s regional creations.

    7Wrangell, AK
Wrangell’s cozy little bay offers a broad view of the attractive town and along the long valley descending from the backdrop of coastal mountains. To the north of town, the Stikine River empties into the ocean in braided rivulets across a wide delta. Salmon runs attract wildlife and observation areas enable you to safely watch eagles, seals, black bears, and brown bears feasting on the spawning fish. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a jet boat ride up the river, an important route during the Gold Rush. On your exploration of the town, savor the flavors of fresh salmon and halibut, participate in native Tlingit culture, or stop and pick from the wild bushes of blueberries and huckleberries.

8Tracy Arm, AK / Sawyer Glacier
This day of cruising offers an array of scenic highlights as our small ship meanders the narrow channel of the Tracy Arm Fjord. Throughout the 25-mile journey, the waterway averages only about a mile wide, framed by steep vertical cliffs stretching more than 3,000 feet high. Pockets of valleys reveal views of larger, snow-capped peaks featuring mountainsides adorned with ancient forest and swaths of sparkling glaciers. Hundreds of waterfalls cascade down the cliffs and tumble into the water. The miraculous journey is further heightened as the ship arrives at the faces of the stunning twin Sawyer Glaciers that once combined to carve out this incredible waterway. Seals lounge with their young on small ice floes. During glacier viewing, the crew prepares a delicious hot-chocolate bar with an array of toppings and liqueurs.

    9Juneau, AK
After an exciting adventure exploring the best of Alaska, end your journey where it began, in Juneau. Enjoy breakfast on board before departing the ship. You may decide to stay longer in this enchanting destination, brimming with incredible wildlife viewing, shopping, eateries, and breweries.
